OpenTable wanted to bring its robust online reservation system to the iPhone and combine it with location sensitivity, enabling users to find and directly reserve tables at nearby restaurants. Solution Create an iPhone application that: • Uses OpenTable’s APIs to access restaurant information and availability • Integrates with the iPhone’s built in GPS to determine a user’s location and show the user the most relevant dining choices • Uploads user selections to OpenTable’s central servers, allowing real-time reservation setting Result Within only a few days of launch, the application became one of the top 50 most downloaded applications on the iTunes store. Additionally, the application generated significant positive press coverage, including mentions in The Wall Street Journal, Wired, and New York Magazine. |
